Working on a Poem

Or a song

Maybe both…

I haven’t had much time for writing these days. The last two months have been the busiest I can remember.

But I have had a piece of an old poem floating around in my head. I had started writing it years ago but wasn’t sure what to do with it. I think I’ve finally figured it out.

A few days ago, I took a photo that seemed to bring it to the forefront and give some feeling to the words. I’ve used the image with the first verse to keep my thoughts going. It’s called The Fae’s Love — for now, at least. Feel free to let me know what you think of it. I know you don’t have a lot to go on here, but any thoughts are appreciated.

The photo shows a darkened entrance to a woodland area with fall foliage. The poem overlays the image in the upper right-hand corner.
First verse of The Fae’s Love

It’s going to be a rather long poem, so there is much work to do. The rhyming pattern is a bit complex because I like to make things more difficult for myself. And I’m uncertain what, or how much, punctuation I should use.

For those unable to read the words in the image, they are:

A long-forgotten pathway
Beside the cedars green
Leads past posts of guardian oaks
Where very few have been
To a dark and ancient doorway
Of a world that lies beyond
Where birds on high and damselflies
Circle in the sun

The subject of the poem is love and jealousy in a fantasy world. A fae waits for her lover as told in a prophecy. When he arrives, another is jealous of him. Bad things — and good things — happen. That’s all I can say for now.

It is to be a song, also. Might be good for a filk session.

If you’d be interested in seeing the finished version on here, please let me know.
