Haiku for November 2024

Leafing on a high note

In my area, the autumn foliage has been quite beautiful this year. By now, most of the leaves are either gone or a dry and faded brown. Instead, many trees are till very striking, and I am enjoying it as much as possible.

About a week ago, I spotted a sweetgum (Liquidambar styraciflua) leaf that had fallen after a brief shower and had to take a photo because of the colors.

At first, I thought it sad how it passes from this world just as it reaches its peak. Upon further consideration, however, I thought that’s just how it should be — keep improving right up until the end, if at all possible. And when the time comes, perhaps a little fireworks to let everyone know I was there.

That being said, I’m hoping I can do a lot improving and have the time to do it!

For those using a screen reader, the haiku is:

While all life must die,
Some pass in blazing glory;
I hope I do, too!
