Yes, I know this format might be more properly described as a haibun, but I like to put the emphasis on the haiku itself. I’m good either way, though. Hope you don’t mind.

Anyway, back to the poem…

A shoreline scene with a dark woodsy background from Huntley Meadows Park for my April haiku: From a distant wood I hear the mourning dove call; For whom does it weep?

The doves are about, their sorrowful coos echoing through the trees. When the forest is still, their cry can invoke the image of a sobbing spirit wandering…
