Was it Something I Didn’t Say?

Was it Something I Didn’t Say?
You stare in the distance
Your eyes focused on some
Vision of an idealized future,
But I don’t know if I can
Go that far.
I try to speak,
But words all seem to fail me
When all I want are yours,
And I wait for them to surface, but
They don’t come.
In my silence,
Each breath calculated,
There’s a tension eating at me
From the subtle mathematics
Of your gaze.
I can feel your mind
Working overtime
At a plan for your next step
But I don’t know
If I should follow or go.
And there’s the hint
Of a sigh
That echoes deep with my brain
That tells me nothing
Yet says it all.
